Serving Our Community

Redwood has a long history of joining together to form employee-giving campaigns, including a company-wide #HeroChallenge initiative that successfully raised $100,000 in support of frontline responders fighting the coronavirus pandemic; ‘Women in Logistics’ event fundraiser that raised over $5,000 during the virtual event; over $3,000 raised for NSWRFS for Australia wild fires early in 2020 and a fundraiser for Misericordia Home, a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound  developmental disabilities.

Hero Challenge

At the very onset of pandemic, Redwood’s #HeroChallenge called on the company’s everyday heroes, their employees, to assist frontline responders who put themselves at risk to combat the disease. Over the course of four months, employees formed over 31 teams and organized creative fundraising activities including virtual concerts, competitions, games and even a head-shaving event, raising a total of $54,000, which Redwood 100% matched. Proceeds went towards local and national organizations providing COVID-19 protection supplies and services to healthcare workers and community members in need: Live Healthy Chicago, El Paso Community Foundation, Innovative Express Care, Direct Relief

Redwood Games

Each year, a different charity is selected to be the beneficiary of the Redwood Games. The 2019 Games raised $130,000 for juvenile diabetes research; the year prior, Games raised $75,000 for Heroes and Horses. For about three months leading up to the Games, teams of Redwood employees compete to raise money for the charity by conducting raffles, bringing amenities into the office like taco bars, or hosting happy hours. The teams held more than 100 separate fundraisers in the lead-up to the Games.

Women in Logistics

Redwood raised $5,000 during the company’s 3rd Annual Women in Logistics Powering Through the End of 2020 virtual webinar that took place on Nov. 12, 2020. At the event, female logistics industry leaders discussed challenges brought by the pandemic and how to succeed in the future. The money raised during this event was donated to Dress for Success, a not-for-profit organization that “empowers women to achieve economic independence.

Relief Freight Support

In the early days of COVID, our team really came together to pull off miracles for clients during the most critical first few months of pandemic, such as shipping electrical devices to Cleveland Clinic for Coronavirus testing machines, relief loads, medical supplies that were going straight to the front-lines and many of the essential items that were in high demand.

In addition to that, we historically have partnered with FEMA and other world class non-profit organizations to deliver most critical freight during natural and man-made disasters.

Employee Health & Safety

Redwood offers various traditional benefit programs like medical, dental, vision, short-term disability and 401k which currently afford over 70% of our workforce primary benefits to care for their health and the health of their families, extended pay benefits in the event of a qualified leave, and retirement planning for the future. We offer  an Employee Assistance Program for those that need a free and confidential service to connect to counselors for mental health, life changes, substance abuse and more.  In addition, we offer 25 other optional services including things like tele-health, pet insurance, LifeLock, fitness center discounts and more to support the needs of our workforce across the country.

Supporting Small Businesses

As part of our commitment to Small and Medium Size businesses, 58% of our freight moved on small carriers in 2020, defined as carriers with under 20 trucks. These carriers make up 88% of our total active carrier base.

Diversity and Inclusion

We have been monitoring our diversity and inclusion practices, which indicate a positive trend line for minority hiring, however we have a lot of improvement to make over time. In 2020, we:

• required the Diversity and Inclusion training in Paylocity for all of our new hires (employees and leadership)

• added a Diversity, Fairness and Inclusion statement to our Handbook

• added Diversity and Inclusion questions for our Interview Training Guide

• added a question for pronouns in the online application
