As a Modern 4PL, Redwood combines a full range of logistics services with leading-edge technology expertise. We’ve helped hundreds of customers install, integrate, and optimize transportation management system (TMS) solutions from every leading software vendor. As the complexity of transportation management increases, the TMS market is exploding—poised to grow from $15.88 billion last year to $41.57 billion by 2030.
One of our strategic TMS partners, formerly called MercuryGate International, is making a lot of headlines since its acquisition by Körber Supply Chain Software in late 2024. The resulting company, Infios, has more than 5,000 customers operating in over 70 countries, supported by over 2,300 employees.
If you’re a MercuryGate customer—or just interested in what the new company has to offer—we have great news. Recently Redwood’s own Drew Burken, VP of SaaS Operations for Redwood, sat down for a chat with Steve Blough, Chief Supply Chain Strategist at Infios and one of the original founders of MercuryGate. Read on to learn more about how this industry-leading TMS leader is beginning a new era today.
Drew Burken (DB): Steve, can you tell us more about what this acquisition means for legacy MercuryGate customers?
Steve Blough (SB): That’s a great question, and the quick answer is this acquisition is good news for our customers. As you know, transportation management is only getting tougher. Costs are rising, customer expectations are increasing, labor is hard to find, and disruptions are constant. Optimizing the supply chain for speed and service, while still achieving cost savings or cost avoidance, has never been more challenging. Intelligent, advanced TMS solutions make an enormous difference, but it’s important to choose a provider that constantly innovates and adds new functionality to meet emerging challenges. MercuryGate has always been innovative, and now, as Infios, our increased business size and strength make it even easier to fund innovation and push the limits of TMS performance. We're helping customers create more flexible technology stacks by connecting and integrating TMS with multiple Infios supply chain execution products such as OMS and WMS modules. It’s all upside for our existing and new customers.
DB: Even though the company name is new, Redwood has a long partnership with Infios. Looking back over our joint success stories, what’s the common denominator?
SB: We’ve certainly delivered some fantastic results for customers, working together. If you look at our mutual customers like Orbis, Blue Dog Bakery, World’s Finest Chocolate, LK Packaging, and Do it Best, I think there’s a clear theme: We help logistics teams save costs and control their spend, while also improving their delivery speed and customer service results. And we’ve delivered amazing value in both those areas. For example, we improved on-time retail delivery to 97.9% for World’s Finest Chocolate. That’s an incredible service-level metric in today’s unpredictable retail landscape.
DB: Both our companies have delivered strong results for grocery retailers. Why is transportation optimization especially challenging for grocers?
SB: Retail grocery has become kind of a bellwether for our economy. So many factors influence grocery demand, from the economy and inflation to new legislation that affects the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—which is used for 12% of grocery spending in the U.S. Volatility is just a fact of life for grocery retailers today. Transportation optimization is essential to getting grocery products to the right place at the right time at the right price, to capture demand before it changes—or before perishables expire—particularly when grocers may have very narrow delivery and pickup appointment windows. At Infios, we’re proud of the results our TMS and related solutions deliver for grocery retail, whether by improving shipment and order visibility, orchestrating the final mile, or mastering direct store delivery.
DB: Obviously many retailers and other companies are choosing Infios. Why should they also choose Redwood as their system integrator?
SB: As a strategic Infios partner, Redwood brings special expertise that helps customers implement, integrate, and optimize our leading Infios solutions—not just TMS, but also our Warehouse Management and Order Management and Commerce solutions. The Redwood team brings decades of logistics experience, so they know exactly how our software delivers real value and solves daily challenges. Even seasoned logistics professionals may only implement TMS once or twice in their entire career. Redwood’s Systems Integration group has performed countless implementations of our TMS. They have the expertise to advise on the best systems integrations and configurations based on a customer’s business model and desired outcomes.
For example, if a customer’s goal is to achieve real-time visibility across partners, systems, and platforms, that means they need to integrate Infios tightly and securely with the rest of the supply chain, while still allowing for system configurations that are adaptable when disruptions are encountered. And Redwood is truly an expert at doing that.
DB: There have been a lot of conflicting statements recently about the use of AI in supply chains. While only 21% of supply chains are digitized today, 60% of transportation leaders believe AI agents will act for them by 2030. What’s your take on AI and automation?
SB: AI is critical to making better transportation decisions when there’s too much data, volatility, and complexity for humans alone to manage. Especially when multiple stakeholders and organizations are involved.
At Infios, our approach is different: we don’t innovate with AI for the sake of technology. We focus on purposeful innovation that delivers real-world value. Today, our AI-enabled solutions work together to predict, analyze, and resolve disruptions before they impact performance. They optimize processes, increase efficiency, and provide the compliance, data, and visibility that supply chains need to stay resilient.
A key part of this is agentic AI. By using natural communication methods, voice, text, email, our AI agents can streamline workflows, speed up communication, and free teams to focus on higher-value work.
Looking ahead, we’re building new AI capabilities that reflect the challenges customers are facing right now. The goal is simple: give organizations a competitive edge by making their supply chains more responsive, adaptive, and profitable.
