Redwood Serves Up Tasty Transportation Savings for Snak-King

MARKET: CONSUMER PACKAGED GOODS

Headquartered in City of Industry, California, Snak-King was founded as a start-up company in 1978. Today it’s grown to multiple facilities covering over 700,000 square feet, including manufacturing and distribution facilities in Freeport, Illinois. Its 900 SKUs include a range of private-label snack products, including popcorn, tortilla chips, potato chips, extruded snacks, and pork rinds. It also sells snack foods under its own brands: El Sabroso and The Whole Earth.

THE CHALLENGES

  • Escalating transportation costs due to supply chain disruptions and rising fuel prices
  • Labor shortages and increased demand for shipping services strained operations
  • Elevated costs pressured profit margins and competitive pricing

THE SOLUTION

-

Redwood stepped in to help Snak-King overcome its logistics challenges by delivering various strategic solutions. First, the Redwood team leveraged its expertise in transportation management to optimize Snak-King’s freight routes, reducing inefficiencies and minimizing costs. Redwood also provided visibility and transparency across the supply chain, enabling Snak-King to make data-driven decisions and react quickly to changing market dynamics.

-

Redwood also managed negotiations with carriers to secure more favorable rates and terms. Today Redwood provides a range of services, including managed truckload (TL) transportation, freight brokerage for TL transportation, support for the company’s less-than-truckload (LTL) returns shipping, and expedited shipping when any issues arise.

The COVID-19 pandemic created a lot of uncertainty for our business, as transportation costs escalated seemingly overnight. Instead of shrinking our margins or passing all our cost increases on to consumers, Redwood helped us leverage managed assets and freight brokerage services to significantly reduce our short-term costs—while also building greater logistics resilience for the long run.
