CASE STUDY Redwood Delivers Sweet Transportation Savings for Sugar Foods

MARKET: FOOD AND BEVERAGE MANUFACTURING, CONSUMER PACKAGED GOODS

Sugar Foods Corporation is a multinational consumer packaged goods (CPG) company serving grocery retailers, big box retailers, food service companies and quick-service restaurants. Founded in 1948, its brands include Fresh Gourmet, Mrs. Cubbison, and N’Joy, along with private-label and licensed products. With more than 1,400 employees, Sugar Foods operates five facilities across the United States and Mexico.

THE CHALLENGES

  • Manual routing processes for transportation
  • Paper-based appointment scheduling
  • Manually building round trips to optimize fleet use
  • Slow, time-consuming, and error-prone manual freight payment processes

THE SOLUTION

-

Redwood addressed Sugar Foods’ need for increased speed, accuracy, and efficiency by installing Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) to manage both inbound and outbound transportation at the company’s US facilities. This solution enables real-time visibility and connectivity, as well as automating key processes such as freight procurement, rate management, and freight payment.

-

Redwood built a custom integration between OTM and the company’s system of truck-mounted electronic logging devices (ELDs) to send fleet loads directly to the dispatch system.

-

THE RESULTS

Reduced annual freight spend
Maintained service levels at a lower cost
Improved efficiency via process automation
