More Violent Thefts, Aging Trucks, and Driver Shortages Hit the Freight Transport Sector. The Mexican freight transport sector is facing major operational challenges, driven by road insecurity, economic slowdown, driver shortages, and a decline in cargo movement caused by U.S. tariffs.

One of the most critical security-related issues is the record number of road blockades registered last year. These closures caused severe disruptions, incalculable economic losses, and safety risks for both transport operators and the public.

 2. Transportation News & Challenges 

Cross Border Logistics International BridgeThe new headquarters of the National Customs Agency of Mexico was inaugurated in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, a strategic complex that strengthens the operational capacity of the main land crossing between Mexico and the United States and raises efficiency standards for foreign trade. 

Mexico’s heavy-duty truck exports to the U.S., a critical barometer for North American freight, dropped sharply in January, potentially flashing an early warning sign for cross-border trade flows in 2026.

MCSA finalized a rule tightening eligibility and verification for non-domiciled CDLs, effective March 16, reshaping how states issue and renew these licenses. Separately, FMCSA says ELP violations inside the US-Mexico border commercial zones should be cited but not trigger out-of-service action.
